Sustainability: Air France KLM Group continues to lead the Industry in the adoption of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).In 2023, Air France and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines increased use of SAF, surpassing 80,000 metric tons. This achievement marks AFKL as the world's largest airline SAF user for the second consecutive year.Beyond SAF, direct investments in SAF production capabilities demonstrate AFKL strategic approach to reaching sustainability goals.#SustainableAviation#CarbonReduction#AirFranceKLMGroup

The intent of this post isn’t to belittle the efforts of any carriers to deploy SAF on their flights. To the contrary, I think everyone applaudes these efforts to reduce carbon impact of our core activity. I was celebrating that AFKL Group are leading according to this independent report but absolutely appreciate and value all effort and investment in this initiative.

Can you explain the numbers please? The graph says 42,000tonnes in 2002/2023. Your post mentions 80,000tonnes in 2023.The annual report of KLM alone reports 49,000tonnes over 2023. What is what exactly? 🤔

Thanks Andy for sharing this though I highly doubt these numbers. A simple example BA and IAG shown separately. Would AFKL be able confirm the numbers mentioned in this graph to bring credibility? It’s a murky area still and lot of numbers thrown around so would be good get numbers verified by horses mouth. Have a good weekend

But Andy Newbold it is not going so well with Neste - Shares have plummeted and their CEO is stepping down...But KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and Air France rely their sustainable strategies on the 1.000.000 metric tons of SAF promised by 2030 (that's about 5 years leeft) - currently it is a meager 80.000 (or 8% in 2023) Do you think they can make is? How?https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/oil-refiner-neste-says-ceo-matti-lehmus-will-be-stepping-down-2024-04-29/

The airline industry is facing a critical challenge: a gap between publicly perceived sustainability efforts and the reality of genuine, impactful actions. At the Sustainable Aero Lab, we're committed to bringing more transparency to the forefront, showcasing the true innovation leaders in sustainability.🛫 Curious about which airlines are leading the way in Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) usage, not just in words but in action? Bloomberg recently undertook a substantial research effort to rank passenger airlines based on their actual SAF usage in 2022.✈️ The findings are a must-read for anyone in the industry. SAS - Scandinavian Airlines, Air France-KLM, and Norwegian stand out as the frontrunners. Kudos to all three carriers! At the same time, it’s also important to note that even the leading airlines still have a long way to go.📈 Scandinavian Airlines, the top performer in this ranking, still sources less than 1% of its total fuel via SAF. Let’s recognize those making genuine strides and keep pushing for more. The journey to sustainability is long, but every drop of SAF counts.https://lnkd.in/e3jrZYExSAS - Scandinavian Airlines, Air France, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Norwegian, Virgin Atlantic, Lufthansa Group, International Airlines Group (IAG), United Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Alaska Airlines.#Sustainability #SAF #Airline #Netzero #Aviation #Future

✈️✈️ Jet2 to use SAF at Stansted ✈️✈️Jet2.com will use a blend of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) at London Stansted Airport this year, meaning the leisure airline will use SAF on departing flights from two UK airports in 2024, almost a year ahead of the UK’s Government’s SAF mandate which is due to be introduced from 2025.The UK’s third largest airline has purchased approximately 650 tonnes of SAF from Shell Aviation, which will be used to add a 1% SAF blend onto a number of departing flights from London Stansted Airport this year.#SAF#EmissionsCompliance#Sustainability#ReFuelEU#NonCO2#EnvironmentalImpact#Innovation

Very happy to see that our home carrier SAS - Scandinavian Airlines is at the top of this list! 🥇I am currently on my way back from a business trip to the US. I believe that traveling is important for business and for leisure. To connect people, cultures, and allow for experiences that the digital world does not offer. At the same time, I fully acknowledge that we are in a climate crisis and aviation must transition to sustainable technologies to earn its right to continue operation in the furture. Traveling and flying is not a problem in itself, but the climate impact of flying - in its current form - is unsustainable and unacceptable. Therefore in Copenhagen Optimization, when we fly with our home carrier, SAS, we have decided to always buy 100% sustainable aviation fuels (#SAF). This reduces the CO2 emissions of flying with up to 80%. ♻️From the numbers below, it is clear that there is still a long way to go, but SAF demand and production is growing and SAS is leading the way to sustainable aviation - the only option for the future. 💪

Emirates has taken delivery of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from Shell Aviation at London Heathrow Airport.Over 3,000 metric tonnes of neat SAF, blended with conventional jet fuel, will be supplied into the fuelling infrastructure network of the airport* until the end of summer 2024.This is the first time the airline will be using SAF to power some of its flights at London Heathrow and represents the largest volume of SAF it has purchased to date. Emirates is participating in London Heathrow’s SAF Incentive Programme, which ensures its affordability and accessibility for airlines operating at the airport. The airline will be accounting for, tracking and tracing the delivery of SAF at London Heathrow as well as its sustainability attributes through robust reporting methodologies. The SAF that Emirates has purchased from Shell Aviation will be safely dropped into existing airport fuelling infrastructure and aircraft jet engines. In its neat form, SAF can reduce lifecycle carbon emissions by up to 80%** compared to using conventional jet fuel. This Bloomberg News article is interesting from many perspectives. (Thanks Dan Rutherford for directing my attention towards it.)It is interesting that EU airlines are clearly is focusing more on actually using SAF sustainable aviation fuel that US airlines. Walk the talk, is clearly necessary to bring the aviation industry to the next - sustainable - level. It is also interesting that (save for DHL) SAS - Scandinavian Airlines and airfrance industries klm are clearly in the lead when it comes to SAF as a share of all jet fuel tanked in 2022. And considering that AirFrance-KLM is first in line to partner up with SAS, this look indeed very promising for sustainable fossil free aviation in the Nordics and northern Europe.https://lnkd.in/de8mxc_PTransportföretagen Flyg

After the news of Virgin Atlantic’s SAF flight across the Atlantic, I’m pleased to see Air France-KLM Group following suit and taking strides towards sustainable aviation.Investing $4.7 million in DG Fuels, Air France-KLM is bolstering efforts to meet the rising global demand for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). They’ve committed to purchasing up to 75,000 tons of SAF annually from the company, and are aiming for deliveries as early as 2029.This move not only aligns with the group’s pledge to incorporate a minimum of 10% SAF by 2030 but showcases their dedication to curb their environmental footprint – a great step forward for sustainable business travel.#ACETravel #SustainableTravel #AviationNews #TravelIndustry
