    *Homa Bay Pre-Conference Highlights County's Readiness for International Investment*The pre-conference event of the Homa Bay International Investment Conference has generated great momentum, as it showcased the county's eagerness to welcome international investors. Taking place from February 27th to 29th, 2024, the conference aims to attract both local and international investors to tap into the county's vast investment potential. This event is expected to pave the way for the signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between the county government and businesses, as well as foster business-to-business agreements.With 80% of Lake Victoria falling within its borders, Homa Bay County predicts a considerable boom in tourism once investment opportunities are fully realized. To gear up for the upcoming conference, pre-investment conferences are being held not only in Homa Bay town but also in major towns across the country.The Homa Bay pre-investment conference witnessed a strong turnout of local investors who are eager to contribute to the county's progress. Distinguished county officials, including Deputy Governor H.E Oyugi Magwanga, several County Executive Committee Members (CECMs), and Members of County Assembly (MCAs), graced the occasion, reaffirming the government's support for local investment.The Deputy Governor emphasized the importance of generating employment opportunities within the county as a means to reduce crime. He also underscored the immense potential for tourism development along the lakefront, calling on investors to consider this opportunity.CECM Polycarp Okombo outlined the plans for the international investment conference, highlighting the expected presence of ambassadors from the United States and Poland. The focus of his presentation was on the investment prospects in the agribusiness sector, particularly in edible oils such as palm oil.Various county officials presented compelling investment opportunities within their respective departments, showcasing the wide range of options available to potential investors.Mr. Aguko Juma, a successful farmer and former CECM, shared his own experiences and highlighted the profitability of agriculture. He encouraged attendees to consider investing in the sector to foster community development.The Homa Bay pre-investment chapter demonstrated the county's commitment to attracting both local and international investors, setting the stage for a successful international investment conference in February 2024.

    Last Tuesday 23 May 2023 I had the great chance to take part into the closed-door workshop “The cleantech industry in the European Green Deal: policy challenges and the finance landscape for SMEs" at Politecnico di Milano.Elisa Ughetto Annalisa Croce,Laura Toschipresented the preliminary results of the project CLEU financed by theEuropean Investment Bank (EIB)under the EIBURS grant (European Investment Fund (EIF).The round table speakers were so insightful and the discussion was very far from obvious.     Partnerships are essential to addressing today’s global crises, driving sustainable progress & fostering shared prosperity, UNCTAD Deputy Secretary-General Pedro Manuel Moreno said at the opening ceremony of the 4th Qingdao Multinationals Summit in China. In a world marked by a pandemic, trade tensions, geopolitical challenges, rising food and energy prices, and mounting debt burdens, Mr. Moreno stressed the need for concerted efforts and coordinated action between governments, businesses and communities.Mr. Moreno noted China's new role as a major development partner, leveraging its own economic transformation that lifted millions of people out of poverty.The country now invests in projects to help developing countries diversify and restructure their economies and integrate into global value chains.In a challenging landscape, there’s a pressing need for investments in developing countries, especially in sectors critical for sustainable development.Recent UNCTAD research revealed that these nations face a staggering $4 trillion annual investment gap to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.Mr. Moreno was speaking just days before the UNCTAD's 8th World Investment Forum, set for 16 to 20 October in Abu Dhabi.
