My latest trifecta of #neuroscience #psychology #spirituality and #inspirationanddiscipline: research shows that cognitive focus follows visual focus. In yoga this concept is called Drishti, it is about where you bring your gaze and it brings more stability to your poses (try it). A lot of psychological concepts specifically mindfulness aim at calming the mind down to enhance cognitive functioning. Look at one spot for 30-90 seconds before cognitively challenging tasks and see for yourself how your ability to focus responds! 🧠

Below, Kabat Zinn discusses with the Dalai Lama, how the human mind is a source of enormous suffering and how it is a desire of many humans to find freedom from that suffering. Dependent on tradition, there are many paths to finding ease from suffering. From the Buddhist perspective- there is mention that all life is suffering- yet to find peace, we must first befriend the source of our suffering- the mind. I bring this up as it's something I hear so often with clients, in different questions or statements- and what is offered at The Mindful Prof are varied somatic and contemplative practices that extend a polyvagal supported solution in creating more neutrality on what shows up in the mind and body. Trauma sensitive mindfulness may be a conduit to change if practiced with an informed provider. Consciousness is a platform from which knowledge is studied, understood, intelligently applied and subsequently realized, elevating the studious practitioner to higher levels of associative existence. The brain, and its concomitant wrinkles, is an external evidentiary road sign of the passage of the soul to those higher realms of consciousness.Undoubtedly, scriptural guidance is the entryway to such progress, but without an effort to follow such roadmaps, surely the knowledge available remains ever elusive...Hare Krsna!🙏
