13 years is a long time in the world of restaurants. But n/naka is not just any restaurant. One of Los Angeles' most celebrated and special dining experiences since its opening, n/naka is helmed and choreographed by chefs and co-owners Niki Nakayama and Carole Iida-Nakayama, both warmly humble yet resolutely dedicated to their craft. n/naka's multi-course California-influenced kaiseki menu is one of those rare dining experiences capable of touching all of the senses, sometimes resulting in wide-eyed glee, other times with flavors and scents best appreciated in quiet, closed eyed contemplation. Recognized not only by two Michelin stars, but also immortalized as one of the culinary luminaries of Netflix’s first season ofChef’s Table, the restaurant's redesign was sort of a big deal...and thankfully realized in details sometimes as subtle and sublime as the menu itself. The resulting interior brings time to a standstill through its thoughtfully paced detailing, starting from the restaurant's poetic entrance down to the individual ceramics diners are welcome to choose themselves.Check out the complete tour of the redesign at: https://lnkd.in/g3vAs7Aq * Special thanks to Anne Michi Kleinedler Alderete and Takashi Yanai, FAIA

Thanks to Aki Laine at Sonos, Inc. for speaking with us about the new Sonos Ace just after landing from a transcontinental flight. They say the "devil is in the details", but the Ace features an angelic degree of attention to the tactile as much as the sonic, with excellent ANC performance. Read more at: http://dlvr.it/T8bN7F

It feels like the CD resurgence is just starting to pick up a head of steam, percolating from the audiophile community up to the same demographic that helped vinyl make a comeback. The numbers will never threaten streaming listening, but CDs could reemerge into an influential niche as younger listeners continue to find comfort in the tactile objects of yesterday. I realize after looking through Fred Bould Design's body of work, I own/owned a good deal of designs from the studio's efforts: Nest, Eero, Roku, Hunter Douglas. One of my favorites happens to be one of the smallest objects Bould has designed, a remote that "feels and looks nearly as satisfying as our favorite tide worn beach stone."https://lnkd.in/gEdA-Xbq

As someone who lives in a heavily wooded neighborhood, wildfire resiliency alongside power grid independence are both motivating factors for investing in a residential backup power system to work in conjunction with the solar system we invested in last year. These systems still require a significant investment, but there's been a noticeable uptick in manufacturers entering into the residential sector. And with more competition – alongside newer and cheaper battery technology – systems like the Anker SOLIX will come down in price.

The unveiling of the Ferrari 12Cilindri stateside during Miami Grand Prix week was done up in an incomparable Italian style I won't soon forget. The 12Cilindri in both its coupe and spider edition exhibit what can only be described as a modernist's optimism, one directly attributed to the likes of the works of the Castiglioni brothers, Gee Aulenti, Ettore Sottsass, Gaetano Pesce, and Gio Ponti, alongside the visionary science fiction sets of the late 1960s and 1970s. I'll never forget how Flavio Manzoni physically recoiled when I made passing mention of the term, "retro-modern". And I agree, the design is only a passing nod to the past, and more a progressive lean toward Ferrari's future.

"With the R2, we purposely made a conscious decision to make it feel like a smaller R1S, but when we showed R3, it showed how we can actually stretch the brand in a very different direction." - Jeff Hammoud, Chief Design Officer at RivianFrom what we witnessed across social media, Rivian has a potential hit with their R3 design, reflecting the public's hunger for EVs in different forms serving different functions.

We need more housing options beyond expensive new condos and oversized McMansions, especially as our population begins aging. Not to mention serving a generation of younger buyers seeking starter home dwellings. One solution is to add multi-generational density housing onto existing single dwelling properties with enough land to add units like these offered by Cosmic. Affordability remains an issue, as these are currently aimed as supplementary units for the well-heeled homeowner. But hoping in time the economy of scale will kick in and these become an alternative landing somewhere between an apartment and a home.
