A Channel 8 reporter and users of the NOW Local News App saw dark smoke from miles away.

Authorities said the whole structure — the original part and the addition — were destroyed.

Hanson said no one was home during the fire, and no one was injured.

The cause is still under investigation, Hanson said.

Capt. John Vik with the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office said the fire caused $2.75 million in damage to the home and its contents.

Firefighters from Lincoln Fire & Rescue, Hickman Fire & Rescue and Bennet Fire & Rescue also responded.
